Hockey jamboree!

This weekend we enjoyed Ellar's Pre-Novice hockey JAMBOREE!!

Ellar is on the Purple Tim Horton's Team on the left!  There was one team missing from this photo.

Ellar <3

Ellar LOVES playing hockey!  It's his 2nd year.  His dad is one of his coaches.  Ellar often says "hockey is my middle name"!  He is very athletic and agile.  He plays on the same team one of his cousins is on.  In pre-novice and novice (2 years each), the players use only half the ice.  This allows the skaters to all be able to have contact with the puck more often and skate less.  With full ice, often it's only the fastest skaters that have an opportunity to get the puck.  I can see the advantage to using just half ice as all the players have really developed their passing and puck handling skills!!  I can tell this will be a very positive thing when they hit Atoms!

Identity Day Project

Ellar's siblings were asked to do an Identity Day Project as part of a school incentive.  It was so much fun, Ellar and I decided to do one as well!  He chose photos of playing in the sand with a loader after soccer practice this summer, a photo of the kite we brought back from Indonesia for him and his brother (they loved it!), and an example of his face painting in Disney World!  Ellar also chose 2 picture to colour that he thought were best for his make believe <3  I agree, they are a perfect choice!  Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtle and a foot soldier!

Ellar loves make believe and imaginary play!
Ellar really loves imaginary play and make believe!  In fact, he's never bored or says "there's nothing to do" because he's always content playing make believe!  Whether it's building Lego, using his figurines, dressing up, role play, playing house or Barbies with his siblings, or using a toy sword, Ellar can play using a story he makes up in his head <3  I love that about him!  He's a very fun guy!  I find it's a very neat attribute to have, especially because he's also very attracted to computer games or the Nintendo Wii (his favourite is Super Mario Bros.).  He seems to have a good balance that way!

Ellar also worked on the soft "a" in his Explode the Code workbook

Also beginning, middle, and ending sounds (just like what he practices on Reading Eggs website)

Ellar likes to read and be read to every day.  We try to choose fun books and he's becoming a more fluent reader.  We are look forward to visiting the Public Library every week!
